Diary of a solo traveler part 5

Since living in Japan with my loved one, I started traveling solo. From short daily trips and weekend trips to multi-day holidays. This time I am going to Thailand alone, and I would like to share my experiences and thoughts as a solo traveler with you.

Getting to know yourself

The great thing about an experience like this as a solo traveler is that you inevitably encounter yourself. I am staying internally for a week at a Fitness Camp on Phuket. This is also why I travel alone in Thailand. At first it felt a bit like the first day of high school. How will I respond to others and how will they respond to me? Fortunately, I soon found out that everything wasn’t so bad!

Exercising together

Fortunately, everyone here is about a few things: exercising, having fun if you feel like it, eating healthy and having a bit of a holiday. Everyone respects it if you don’t want to participate in something or if you just need some extra rest. Of course everyone encourages each other, but in a nice way. We encourage each other when we think we are not going to make it to that last exercise. I think this is a very nice way of interacting with each other, and it makes me see that the world is no longer the same as that first day at high school.

All kinds of people

Everyone here has their own goal and a unique story. People from all over the world come together here to exercise whether they are fat, thin, short, tall, old or young. During my group lessons in the Netherlands, I discovered how nice it is to exercise and complete a workout together, and what effect that has on your mental and physical health. This feeling is clearly matched here.

Sporty reflection

What I like about sports is that you really get to know yourself well and discover what kind of person you are and how you react to things. For me, this means that I can switch a switch while exercising; I get in my head, concentrated and focused on one thing: completing the workout. I will continue to the bitter end. This also reflects how I am in real life.

The last day of this sports week is approaching, and I’m getting ready for a new day full of sports and exercise, because I’m going to give everything I have until the end!
