Diary of a solo traveler part 4

Diary of a solo traveler

Since living in Japan with my loved one, I started traveling solo. From short daily trips and weekend trips to multi-day holidays. This time I am going to Thailand alone, and I would like to share my experiences and thoughts as a solo traveler with you. Welcome by my dairy of a female solo traveler!

It’s not always what it seems

Here’s the honesty: solo travel isn’t always roses and moonshine. But do you know what that means? It means that you get to know yourself better. You discover what you like and where you feel comfortable. You can take these insights with you when planning your next solo trip or other aspects of your life.

Simple beach house VS luxury beach hotel

During my stay in an old wooden house in a quiet part of Phuket, I was completely happy. On the other hand, I feel less comfortable in a more luxurious environment, such as my current hotel. It seems to be a bit of a “look at each other culture” here. As I walk around the grounds, I kindly greet other guests, but I am often ignored. This happens to me not just once, but repeatedly. Also the staff doesn’t seem sincere; every question seems too much to ask. Don’t get me wrong, the hotel is beautiful and the location is great, but I now realize that I personally don’t fit in well in such an environment.

Alone but also together

In this place I am literally less alone, but emotionally I still feel lonely. I also had this feeling when I took the boat to Coral Island, which was full of noisy tourists. This is just not my environment. Just give me a quiet place in the middle of nowhere, alone or with Thomas, and I’ll be the happiest person on earth.

Anyone who travels solo has experienced a day like this. As difficult as it is, the key is to switch the switch. You must first understand this process in order to use it for your next trip. The positive side of today is that I have something interesting to write about and something to learn from!

Now I’m going to get a beer and watch those horrible tourists. This makes me feel at home again, just like on a summer terrace in the Netherlands! Cheers!
